Ladle Carved From Oak, Aged Finish
I carved this ladle after a visit to the Mary Rose exhibition in Portsmouth. Although it’s not really modelled on any particular example found aboard the nearly 500 year old shipwreck, it is inspired by the style and shape of the surviving wooden treen, the old ship’s timbers and aged cabin furniture on display.
Carved from a fallen oak branch, aged, oiled and waxed, this ladle is only for display as the finish isn’t food safe…but you wouldn’t want to get it ‘soupy’ anyway!
